Shatty as a rental should be silly expensive. Probably a 1st plus very good prospect (I'd say he deserves what Yandle got with salary retained and 1.5 years of control). He would be a game changer for the Pens.

I'd trade Fleury for a 2nd round pick and just be happy we simplified the position and protect ourselves from a potential Fleury buyout at the last minute so we can protect Murray.

If we did a shatty deal I would expect it to be

Blues are a great fit for Fleury...I would be insanely surprised if he could bring back Shattenkirk though.

I went with a 2nd instead of a 1st because I valued Fleury as a 2nd round pick.

I also view Sprong as a pretty good prospect and likely top 6.

That is two 2nd round picks and a high-end forward prospect. Its a solid haul for even a very good rental dman.

They would ask for a 1st, but I thought a 2nd was fair.

I have no opinion on accepting that deal. Sprong is a high price to pay. But Shatty is the defenseman that could really solidifies things for a cup run. I think we are favorites for the cup but getting Shatty for the 2nd pairing should put us as overwhelming favorites. Its a high price for a rental, but fair. Sprong though could really help us on 2-3 cup runs. My enjoyment is being a contender every year so I'd probably say no to the deal, but I think its fair.

We're desperate, but no thanks. Fleury is past his prime and over budget. The Blues have a potentially elite goaltender in the system who needs time to grow. We're obviously not getting anywhere near the cup this year with how our defense has been playing, so there's no reason for us to jump to conclusions.

Ville Husso. He's the first goaltender in the Blues' system that scouts have called potentially elite this century. He still has a long way to go though.

It's a good fit, MAF to St. Louis, but Pittsburgh would have to include something significant in the trade, especially since everyone knows that Pittsburgh needs to move MAF if they want to keep Murray/

Why would Shattenkirk need to be in the trade? If they are a good fit they could move other assets for flower. Wanting Shattenkirk is just very wishful thinking. I dont want to pay the extra it'd take to get him. We dont need to go back to the Shero days of overpaying for rentals.

We are wanting to move him. Our goaltending is a complete dumpster fire. Id rather have MAF than Ben Bishop, thats for sure.
